Live Well
An article that caught our attention some time ago but worth revisiting refers to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. In 2014 The North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton area was ranked as having the highest Well-Being Index score across the most populous communities in the United States!
This study was based on an extensive survey of adults in all 50 states with a focus on five key elements of well-being.
According to the study, those elements were:
1. Purpose: Liking what you do and being motivated to achieve your goals
2. Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life
3. Financial: Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
4. Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe, and having pride in your community
5. Physical Health: Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily
Our area scored well in all five elements, which put us at the top of the list. We could give you more details from the article, but you can read it yourself by clicking here.
Our focus is more on the “no surprise to us!” factor. We have lived here over 60 years combined, and there’s a reason for that. Our tropical paradise offers something for everyone, and we love it here!
Let’s start with purpose. Do we like what we do? We LOVE helping people find the perfect home, and helping them all the way through the transaction to closing. The same goes for helping our sellers. BUT! Is it just about our profession? Absolutely not! We love fishing, boating, golfing, going to the beach, everything that living on the Florida Gulf Coast has to offer.
How about social? There is so much to do with other people here! Waterfront and inland restaurants, live entertainment every night at multiple establishments, social and exercise clubs, countless golf courses and tournaments, active 55+ communities, and so much more. You don’t have to look far to find opportunities to meet and socialize with new and old friends.
Financial security is obviously a personal thing, but from a real estate perspective, interest rates continue to be at all-time lows, prices are rising & homes are selling, which is good news for sellers. At the same time, prices are still reasonable and there are still some very good deals out there, which is good news for buyers. Sounds like a well-being win-win!
Community…I think some of the previous comments are very clear about how we feel about our community. The weather is fabulous, the turquoise water is here, there’s always something fun happening. We love where we live, what’s not to love? Pride? Well, we just received some very nice recognition with this study. Englewood, Florida received a significant amount of recognition in 2014 as well. We were recognized last year as a best place to retire, and featured in several publications as an amazing destination. Yes, we’re proud of our community for sure!
Last, but not least, physical health. Again, this is a personal element, but there is always an opportunity to do something healthy. We have several gyms in the area, and a warm climate that lends itself to outdoor activities. A walk on the beach, kayaking, swimming, biking, running, golfing, diving – another list that doesn’t end.
It’s always nice when your community is recognized. This type of study is especially important for those communities that don’t rank well so they can begin to create strategies to improve the appropriate elements for their area.
As for us, we don’t need a study to tell us we live in the best place possible! If you don’t already live here, we’d love to call you our neighbor. Come on down!
